I think Chinese can be difficult coming from a Western background. There are sounds that are made in Chinese that are not made in English and vice-versa. Chinese also relies on tones when speaking. So for example, the word mother, horse, hemp and scold are all pronounced, "ma" but with a different tone for each word. So if you're not careful, you could end up calling someone's mother a horse. LOL So, is it tough - yes, it can be. But with practice, you can still learn it.
