In the Pool

I've been swimming at the local fitness club past four years

and can swim medley now,

I take the lessons twice a week.

There are almost the elderly ladies in the class.

they can swim a lot because they have been swimming five years or more

although they swam like a stone at  first.

In the breast stroke and free style, there are two 50's men,

I supposed they would quit in a month when they started taking the lesson

6 months ago, because most men quit easily.

But now they swim 25m well with good form as the coach taught .

I have been  worrying  about my form of butterfly past a few years,

I can swim 25m butterfly, everyone say mine is beautiful form.

But the coach says my stroke is out of kick .

The coach  points same thing since I started to take the butterfly class  three years ago,

Yesterday, I swam as usual,

There were a few people in the pool because of 1:00 PM,

I was swimming free style and breaststroke 1000m,

then the young guy of early twenties started swmimming at the next course.

His swim impresed me because he swam 100m butterfly beautiful with turn

and medley was perfect.

I've seen many expert  race swimmers at the olympic pool last year,

but there are a few expert swimmers at the fitness club, very rare,

I just thought of asking him about butterfly,

Since he was swimming earnestly,  I just hesitated,

He was taking a break..

Me:  Excuse me...( in a low voice..)

Him: .....Yes?? ( Looks Just surprising )

Me:  Your swim is pretty nice,  do you race somewhere?

Him: Thanks( with a smile)  But I'm not so good,

He said that out of modesty.

I asked him several questions, he replyed details like a coach

and taught  about a practice way I've never heard.

He's quite a nice guy,

It was a lucky day I could have a new friend in the pool.alt

scribbler: Exactly, About one handed butterfly, you keep to stretch your other arm forward , and stroke with one arm, then
it's just like crawl stroke, but after stroking you have to throw the arm straight while moving shoulder quickly and kicking.
This is a basic practice to master butterfly.

xiflada: swim is very nice communication for both of you, there are many people of Underwater walking in our pool,
they sink like a rock, some of them take a beginner lesson to get used to water. The coach teach them by many ways,
They pick up the locker key underwater, they say it's good way to remove fear for water. At first, it's just difficult
for them to pick up the key. but fear is removed day by day.

Tomoko, that's the first time I've came across that method for learning butterfly, the one handed one. My brain isn't processing how that works at all. Do you just keep your other arm against your side or use a float or something? I think I'd end up going round in a circle! LOL. :)

xiflada: I wish if I could swim with you . There is a lesson called Aquabics in my fitness club, Many people take it,
It's an underwater aerobics, I used to take a lesson of underwater walking, This is a good effect to shape waist
because going back and forth to up thigh or twist waist about thirty minutes. I don't like running, but I like uderwater walking,

scribbler: Sound nice also you like swimming, It was hard to learn also breaststroke kick , because we practice with a kickboard, now I master it though, I like crawl best , and I agree butterfly is pretty exhausted as you say, so I wonder why the guy can swim 100m, hard to believe the expert swimmer can swim butterfly long distance like crawl.
About butterfly stroke, we usually practice one hand stroke and a dolphine kick to wave body.

Tomoko, I'm impressed that you can swim butterfly. I much prefer crawl over breaststroke but it's years since I swam more for exercise than just splashing around with the kids. I always found that the butterfly stroke was really exhausting on the arms and I'd get tired really quickly. Crawl was always much faster for me. How do you overcome that with the butterfly stroke or is that just me? That guy sounds nice, by the way. :)

Xiflada, Actually, I was not good at PE in school days, My bad memory is a swim class in college day, somehow there was PE
in my college as a required subject, and the last test for graduation was swim, I had to pass the freestyle 25m and breast stroke
25m in the pool which the water depth of the end was 150cm and the center was 2m, very scared me. I swam breaststroke
like almost drowning, But I like swim now because there is no test and the waterdepth is just 1m. I love Jacuzzi after swim.
