Boys' Festival in Japan
7:49 PM on Apr. 14, 2008

We have national holidays called Golden week  from May 3rd to  6th ,alt

And May 5th  of  the Boy's Festival  also called Children's day  is a day  to celebrate the health growth of  children.

Families with boys display  a Suit of Armor reprica or Samurai dolls in  the room.

Beside fly  Carp Streamers called Koinobori outside,

The Carp is thought to be a lucky  fish symbolizing success in life  here.

I  just upped the pictures of  the Suit of armor reprica and the Carp Streamers on " My Photos" of my album.

Wish you'll enjoy it,alt

So glad you guys liked the pics of Boys' Festival, excactly, the carp live longer than other fishes,Nowadays people flying
a carpstreamer at the yard in Tokyo city is decreasing than my childhood , because the apartment buildings are increasing more than houses with the yard , Well, we eat Japanese sweets called Kashiwamochi for Children's day, It's sold at the store only till May 5th, very yammy.

Cassie, I am not familiar with anything like this in the U.S. either, but this sounds like an excellent event.

Yeah, I have heard that the Carp is a symbol of luck in Japan. I actually didn't find that out until recently when we were looking at the in laws last trip to Japan.

That is neat. I'm not aware of anything here in the US other than maybe birthdays? That really isn't even close to your celebration. I do think that is a neat thing to do and I too wonder why they chose the Carp?? I know Carp is NOT my favorite fish! Especially not for eating because they are so bony! lol

Now I get it, I should have read your blog first before looking at your uploaded photos. That's a good festival you have there. I just wonder why they chose Carps, is it because Carps live longer than other fishes?
